Grown on our own farm in the Ebro delta, one of the most important wetlands in the Mediterranean basin and where rice fields are a fundamental part of the ecosystem.

All our rice comes from certified organic farming. Riet Vell owns a 52 ha farm (see location), enabled as an ornithological reserve thanks to a land custody agreement with SEO / BirdLife. Of this area, 42 ha are dedicated to rice fields and the remaining 10 ha to the restoration of an interesting wetland that over the years has become one of the best areas of the delta for observing waterfowl.

Occasionally Riet Vell also buys rice from other neighboring organic producers or even in the surroundings of other protected wetlands, such as the Guadalquivir marshes, where there is a very similar relationship between the rice field and the conservation of environmental values.

The Ebro Delta is one of the most important wetlands in Europe and is a critical area for the survival of many threatened bird species. The combination of lagoons, reed beds, beaches, bays and rice fields gives the Delta a great diversity of environments that make this biological richness possible.

Rice cultivation, and especially organic cultivation, is a key element in this ecosystem and the survival of many species depends on it, such as the Squacco Heron, the Purple Swamphen, the Audouin's Gull, the Imperial Heron or the White-faced Fumarel.
